The famous painting Dulle Griet is one of Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s best-known masterpieces. The recently restored painting depicts bizarre ruins, monstrous creatures and brawls, encompassed by a scorching glow. In the foreground, amidst everything, we see an advancing woman wearing armour and carrying a sword: Dulle Griet.

More than 450 years after the Flemish master painted this gem, Dulle Griet is the showpiece of the Mayer van den Bergh museum in Antwerp. A stone's throw from that museum, LLS Paleis, a contemporary art gallery, is expanding further on this theme. With the exhibition ‘Dulle Griet: rebellion – provocation – despair – feminism', LLS Paleis pays tribute to that intriguing figure. A multitude of contemporary artists put the ambiguity of this female protagonist in the spotlight.

I'd love to tell you more about it.

Baroque is not an artistic movement, it's a way of life.
