New loan from David Bowie's private collection: altarpiece by Jacopo Tintoretto

In November 2016, David Bowie's art collection was auctioned at Sotheby's in London. The pop icon almost exclusively collected modern art, but he also owned a monumental altarpiece, the "Holy Catharina" by Jacopo Tintoretto (1518-1594). This painting made such a huge impression on Bowie that he even named his record label after it (Tintoretto Music).

New loan from David Bowie's private collection: altarpiece by Jacopo Tintoretto

The private collector who bought this work by the Italian master at the auction, immediately decided to give it to the Rubens House in Antwerp on a long-term loan. A piece like this truly belongs in this Baroque city palace in Antwerp. It wasn't just David Bowie who admired Jacopo Tintoretto – Rubens and Van Dyck did as well.

This loan is a great opportunity to discover the Rubens' hometown with its sublime patronage during the Baroque period.
